History

Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills was established in Sydney as specialist tax practice Greenwoods & Freehills in 1985. It brought together established accounting firm, Greenwood Challoner and the Sydney revenue practice of law firmĀ Freehill, Hollingdale and Page.

Since its establishment, Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills has added offices in Melbourne (2005) and Perth (2012) through the annexation of Herbert Smith Freehills' revenue practices. In 2008, the firm merged with the highly regarded Melbourne tax boutique, Shaddick & Spence, to create Australia's largest specialist tax practice.

In 2014, following the merger of our affiliated Australian law firm, Freehills with UK law firm Herbert Smith to form the law firm Herbert Smith Freehills, the decision was made to change our firm's name to Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills. This change was made in recognition of our continued strong affiliation with Herbert Smith Freehills.
